The project Retention Dams for Debris Flow Mitigation (with acronym STOPDEBRIS) focused on develop design guidelines for structural mitigation solutions for debris flow, particularly for the retention of solid material. The design guidelines were established following the assessment and evaluation of flow conditions and retention efficiency of dams, based on physical model experiments and numerical modelling.
The STOPDEBRIS project was developed by AQUALOGUS with the partnership of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) - CERis. The project had a 27 months duration and was co-funded under the Research and Technological Development Incentives System of the QREN (managed by IAPMEI).
This project revealed an innovative profile, entirely with objective and practical approaches, focused on improve the feasibility of potential promoters’ investment for new debris flow mitigation structures and, consequently, increasing the safety of threatened populations and material goods.
