The performed study focused on the adequacy and optimization of the Abrantes’ water supply system with origin in the Castelo do Bode reservoir. Given the study’s objectives, the following main activities were carried out:

• Compilation of the system’s constitution data.
• Evaluation of the present and future water demand.
• Building and calibration of the hydraulic simulation model, in articulation and connection with system’s operation criteria.
• Building of the hydraulic simulation model for the enlargement scenario of system’s influence area (supply to the south bank) and analysis of alternative solutions.
• Technical and economical evaluation of the alternative solutions and prioritization of the projected interventions in the system.

The simulation models were built over commercial application software, with the adaptation of specific modules for the work’s requirements.
