The Compensation Program for the Sado river basin native fish fauna (PMC-Sado) was made to compensate the potential effects associated with the water transfer that will occur under the Alqueva project (EFMA) from the Guadiana River basin to the Sado River basin.
The present study describes the essential steps of Program development. In a first step, the intervention area was established and characterised (fish community, macrophytes and habitat).
